ABOUT MEMBER

James Fryer is Mining Underwriter at Inigo Lloyd’s Syndicate in London. He has a background in Chemical Engineering and has been working in the London insurance market for 25 years as a risk engineer, loss adjuster, and construction/property underwriter, underwriting exclusively in the mining sector for the last 15 years.

James has been the Chairman of MIRA since 2018. He is also a committee member of the Geological Society Business Forum in the UK.

Head Underwriter at Inigo, having joined Inigo in June 2023 after working for other well-known insurance firms within the mining sector. Inigo are a global company working predominantly in the United States and who in 2023 were on track to reach a $1.2 billion GWP target after doubling their growth in 2022 from the previous financial year.

James attended Loughborough University where he studied chemical engineering, receiving a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1995.

ABOUT MEMBER

Tom is Head of Mining at Munich Re. With over 25 years experience across both underwriting and broking, he manages a team of underwriters across London, Munich and Sydney. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Edinburgh and a post-graduate from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College. He is currently Treasurer of MIRA.

Head of IMIU since April 2025, having joined in 2017 with over 25 years of experience within the London insurance market. Joining from Munich Re where he was legal counsel, Andrew is a lawyer by trade, taking a leading role in the drafting and development of the Mining Insurance Group policy wording and clauses.

Director at the Perth Office, Ian is a dual qualified Engineer and Chartered Loss Adjuster, who has been working in the sector since 1985. Works globally, spending a considerable part of his career working in London, the Middle East and Asia. He specialises in the investigation and quantification of claims from the Natural Resources and Construction sectors within Australia and internationally on nominated accounts.

Managing Director at Hawcroft, a company which provides risk management services to the mining industry. Jerry has 44 years’ experience within the industry and 22 years working in senior management roles across a range of sectors within mining including business planning, methane and ventilation management, risk management and accident/incident investigation.

ABOUT MEMBER

Over 25 years’ experience at Swiss Re, serving as the Head of Mining & Power in Zurich. Lars manages a team of underwriters across both Zurich and London and has held various roles in both Switzerland and Australia. Lars holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Applied Science in Zurich. He is also an Executive Board Member of the Mining Insurance & Risk Association (MIRA).

Insurance Manager at BHP since July 2016, with experience across service, manufacturing, mining and telecommunication industries. experience has focused heavily on the areas of governance, implementation of risk management frameworks, commercial negotiations, training and specialised risk and insurance advice

ABOUT MEMBER

Bachelor of Commerce at Edwards School of Business, in the University of Saskatchewan where she was also a research associate between 2011 and 2012. Worked at Capstone Coper since Dec 2017, first as a manager within risk and insurance and from 2023 onwards as director.
